Unspoken Strength: The Hidden Power of Conversation
May 29, 2025
This week, during one of our regular coaching supervision sessions, we were reminded of something so simple, yet so powerful: the impact of conversation. As professionals, we are required to reflect on our practice, and supervision offers us a space to grow. But this particular session stayed with us, not because of any grand breakthrough, but because of the quiet reminder that talking, listening, and holding space can change everything.
We were lucky to be guided by our wonderful supervisor, Michelle. She gently challenged us both as sisters and as co-founders of a growing business and helped us reflect on how we can continue to develop as coaches. It wasn’t about advice or quick fixes. It was about curiosity, presence, and the kind of listening that invites growth.
We often say that talking isn’t rocket science, but if we think about it, poor communication can lie at the heart of many of life’s struggles—from marriage breakdowns to larger societal conflicts. Despite its importance, communication is not a skill most of us are ever formally taught. And perhaps the greatest gap is not in our ability to speak, but in our ability to listen, to truly hear another’s perspective, or even question our own.
In our work with children, we focus on body-based tools to support emotional regulation, but we always come back to one essential idea: connection is key. And connection is built through communication.
When we hold space for someone else, without interrupting, fixing, or judging, we create safety. This kind of presence triggers the release of oxytocin, the body’s natural calming hormone, and builds trust and emotional resilience. It’s something we can all offer, at home, in the classroom, in everyday moments.
So this week, we invite you to pause. Listen with curiosity. Ask questions without rushing to solutions. Whether it’s a child struggling to express big feelings, or a colleague needing a moment of understanding, the power of being heard can never be underestimated.
