Before I knew what fear energy was, I thought I was just…
Organised. Focused. Responsible.
But underneath, I was catastrophising. Constantly.
And if I wasn’t doing it myself, I was getting swept into my husband’s – pulled into the panic like it was fact.
Every thought felt urgent.
My internal state felt on permanent high alert.
What if they fail?
What if they have no friends?
What if I can’t fix this?
I didn’t know those thoughts weren’t truths – they were just stories.
Fear-based interpretations my brain had practiced for years.
And I believed every one.
They shaped how I spoke.
How I held my body.
How I showed up with my kids.
I was always slightly on edge.
Chasing a to-do list that never ended.
Everything felt like it had to be fixed right now.
There was no space for being present.
No margin for meltdowns.
Definitely no room for big feelings.
When my children tried to talk to me – really talk to me – I couldn’t hear it.
Their words knocked me off balance.
They terrified me.
So I shut them down.
Not because I didn’t care – I cared deeply.
But I thought that not hearing their pain would protect me from it.
It didn’t.
It just disconnected us.
This is what fear energy can look like.
It doesn’t always look like yelling or panic.
It can sound calm. It can sound rational.
But it feels urgent.
And your child feels it too – even when you say all the “right” things.
Because your energy lands before your logic.
That tightness in your chest.
That tension in your jaw.
That low-level adrenaline running through every correction, every boundary, every please just listen…
Your child picks it up instantly.
Because children don’t just listen with their ears.
They listen with their bodies.
When your energy says, I’m not ok – theirs says, Then I’m not safe.
Your child’s behaviour is often just a mirror.
They’re reacting to your state – not just their own.
