The put-down that only highlighted the gap
Aug 14, 2026
I was recently contacted on Instagram by someone asking for our qualifications.
I sent them to our About page. The response came back: "Health coaches". Not trained in psychology or medicine!!?"
Yes. Health coaches. And it's an interesting put-down, because it assumes the thing missing from her child's care is more psychology or more medicine. It isn't. It's this.
Laura and I trained in health coaching alongside GPs and other NHS professionals, because no GPs had training in this, hence they were sat in the room learning it alongside us. Doctors who are exceptional at their jobs and were never taught, as standard, how to actually help someone change a behaviour. They can diagnose. They can prescribe. What they often can't do, because nobody trained them in it, is sit with a person and work through what's stopping them from doing the thing they already know they should be doing. The vast majority of the disease we're dealing with globally is linked to our lifestyle, our behavioural choices, and yet very few professionals are trained in behaviour change.
That's not a criticism of medicine. It's a gap in it. And it's the same gap that sits underneath psychology, therapy, and every other discipline mums come to us from. Knowing and doing are two different skills. Most training teaches the first. Almost none of it teaches the second.
This is what coaching actually is. Not a lesser version of psychology. A different discipline, built specifically for the doing part. We don't diagnose, treat, or prescribe. We're trained in behaviour change, and we've lived the exact thing we're helping you change. That combination, lived experience plus training in how change actually happens, is what's missing when a mum is handed a diagnosis and nothing else.
Here's what it looks like when our piece is missing. You have a neurodivergent child. You go through the whole process and get the diagnosis. If you're lucky, you get more support at school. But nothing stops the emotional explosions at home. The system isn't joined up. The diagnosis tells you what you're dealing with. It doesn't tell you what to do when it's kicking off again.
The diagnosis was right. The support at school might even be right. But the mum isn't even part of the picture. Yet she's the one left dealing with the hardest part of all: an emotionally intense child, a house like a war zone, and zero support.
This is where we step in. We coach. We've lived it. And we work through the doing part with you.
- What feelings are stopping you from responding differently?
- What are you going to have to feel to let go of the old version of you, in order to move forward?
- What alternative narrative are you going to have to play in your head about your child, instead of the one that's on repeat?
- How are you going to stop reacting in the moment, and choose a different response instead?
- How are you giving yourself permission to put your needs back in the picture instead of just meeting everyone else's?
This isn't about the theory. This is about the doing.
If you're the mum who's tried everything, every discipline, every specialist, every book, and it still isn't changing anything, this might be your gap. Not another diagnosis. Not another expert telling you what's wrong. The doing part. The bit that gets you out of the war zone and into something that actually feels like your home again.
If you want the doing, not just the understanding, that's what we built the Leadership Method for. Coaching Edition if you want to do this alongside other mums who get it. VIP if you want us right there with you, working through your specific war zone. Either way, this is where the doing starts.
