The impact on health of living in neurodiverse households: Insights from Curtin University-Led Research

In today's world, neurodiversity is becoming increasingly recognised. A recent study led by Curtin University has shed light on the unique challenges faced by caregivers in neurodiverse households. It revealed that these households are more likely to experience significant levels of stress, mental health issues, financial hardships, and strained relationships. The implications of this research have raised important questions for us about the connection between neurodiversity and overall health & wellbeing.

At first glance, the correlation between neurodiversity and health might seem puzzling. As practitioners we have personal experience with neurodiversity within our own families and most of our client base, who have come to us with health issues share similar stories.

This realisation has encouraged us to focus on lifestyle factors that can significantly improve the well-being of neurodiverse households.

Our toolkit for supporting these families includes strategies not limited to somatic practises, cerebellum and vestibular exercises, nutrition, relationship coaching, behaviour change, habit formation, building stellar environments and much more. We aim to significantly improve the overall quality of life for both neurotypical and neurodivergent family members.

There is a need for society to move beyond its predominantly neurotypical perspective and start addressing the challenges faced by neurodiverse families. We can take the first steps by sharing personal experiences with each other, offering support and understanding.
