Here's what my daughter taught me about my health!

Many of you know that we are the sisters behind The Emotions Lab, a venture born from our shared passion for health and emotional well-being. Our journey has been one of learning how to reduce chronic pain and calm the endless mental chatter that can keep us stuck. But, perhaps the most humbling discovery along the way has been realizing that living a healthy lifestyle alone isn't always enough—sometimes, our emotions can completely upend our well-being.

Parenting our wonderfully neurospicy (as we love to call them!) children has taught us this in the most profound ways. Children can derail you emotionally like nothing else! Their anxiety feeds of our own and if we don't keep our own emotional house in order, how can we possibly be fully there for them? I remember a moment in EFT training when our trainer described the need to be strong enough for our children so that they can push hard against us without us crumbling but rather flexing with every crisis. But crumble I certainly did! One day, my daughter looked at me and said, "Mummy, I can't share how I feel with you anymore because I know how much it hurts you." That was the moment I knew I needed to change, not only for her, but for myself too.

I had always believed I was fine, that working on myself might seem selfish or indulgent. But the truth was, my emotions were so tangled with hers that I couldn’t separate the two. By understanding myself better, I’ve learned how to support her—though it’s not always easy, I now have the tools to stay grounded for her when she needs me most.
